2001-2002 NHL REPLAY– this year I did things differently. Instead of trading players over the course of the year and playing six games with each team. I just took the teams sent by Strat and matched the actual playoff teams against each other in a best of 5 series. The left overs were also matched up in a best of 5 series.

FIRST ROUND – Best of 5
Vancouver vs. Detroit
Game 1- Vancouver 3 Detroit 9
Brendan Shanahan scored a natural hat trick in the first period and the Wings blew up the Canucks.
Game 2- Vancouver 4 Detroit 5 overtime
Brendan Shanahan scores at 1:54 of overtime to allow the Wings to take a 2-0 series lead. Trent Klatt was first star scoring twice for Vancouver.
Game 3- Detroit 2 at Vancouver 3
Canucks jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two periods on goals by Klatt and Druken and held on for a 3-2 win over the Wings. Robitaille (oo), Bertuzzi, and Lidstrom were the other scorers
Game 4- Detroit 3 at Vancouver 2. Detroit wins the series 3-1
Brendan Shanahan has two goals and Fedorov scores the winner in the second period as the Wings take the series. Canucks outshot Detroit 35-24 in this game , including 15-5 in the third period. But it was to no avail. Haseks stops 2/4 in range shots for the win.
Chicago vs St.Louis
Game 1 – Chicago 2 St.Louis 3
Keith Tkachuk scored 2 goals to lead the Blues to a game one victory.
Game 2 – Chicago 3 St.Louis 2
4th liner Mike Peluso shocks everyone by scoring two goals to get the first star and lead the Hawks to a 3-2 win to tie the series at 1-1.
3- St.Louis 1 Chicago 3 . Steve Sullivan leads the Hawks with two assists. G- Amonte, Daze, Mironov, MacInnis
4- St.Louis 3 Chicago 4 . Zhamnov, Klemm, Amonte all have 1 G 1 A for the Hawks. Tkachuk scores 3 for the Blues.
Chicago wins best of five series 3-1
Phoenix at San Jose
Game 1- Phoenix 1 San Jose 0
Krys Kolanos scores early in the third period to give the Coyotes the win. Sean Burke was the number one star as the Sharks outshot the visitors 31-17. Burke was 5/5 on goalie ratings.
Game 2- Phoenix 0 San Jose 1
Teemu Sellane scores at 14:46 of the first overtime as San Jose squares the series at 1-1. Sean Burke (8/8 gr) and E.Nabokov (5/5 gr) were both outstanding.
Game 3- San Jose 3 Phoenix 2
E.Nabokov is outstanding earning the first star as he stops 6/7 goalie ratings. Owen Nolan fires the game winner early in the third period.
Game 3- San Jose 2 Phoenix 3
Claude Lemeiux rises to the occasion scoring the game winning goal late in the third period as Phoenix forces a game 5.
Game 5- Phoenix 3 San Jose 1 .
Sean Burke stands on his head as Phoenix is outshot 26-17 . Burke stops 6/6 goalie ratings and the Coyotes advance as Krys Kolanos as the key offensive player for the Coyotes scoring once and getting 3 shots on net. Phoenix wins the best of 5 series 3-2
Los Angeles at Colorado
1- Los Angeles 4 Colorado 3. Former Av’s winger Adam Deadmarsh scores twice for the Kings
2- Los Angeles 3 Colorado 2 (overtime). Cliff Ronning scores at 12:10 of OT to give the Kings another shocking win. Smolinski 1G,1 A, Schneider 2 A
3- Colorado 3 Los Angeles 2. Devries, Reinprecht, and Drury all score to lead the Avalanche to the win.
4- Colorado 1 Los Angeles 4 . Ziggy Palffy scores twice to lead the Kings.
Los Angeles wins the best of five series 3-1.
Montreal at Boston
Game 1 – Montreal 4 Boston 2
Habs gets goals from Berezin, Juneau, Bulis and Dykhuis to take home ice away from Boston. Jose Theodore was solid stopping 2/2 GR, and making 23 saves as Boston outshot the Habs 25-22.
Game 2 – Montreal 4 Boston 0
Jose Theodore shuts down the Bruins attack again in Boston.
Game 3 – Boston 1 at Montreal 2. Montreal wins the best of five series 3-0.
Jose Theodore is playoff MVP shutting down Joe Thornton and company.
Carolina at New Jersey
Game 1. NJ 4 Carolina 1.. Stephane Richer scores twice to lead the Devils.
Game 2 NJ 3 Carolina 5 .. Rod Brind’Amour has 2G 2A to lead the Hurricanes. Hedican 1G, 2A.
Game 3. Carolina 2 NJ 0… Svoboda and Wesley scored and Kevin Weekes picked up the shutout.
Game 4. Carolina 3 NJ 1 ..Jeff O’Neill scored twice and Ron Francis had two assists to lead the Canes to the series win.
……Carolina wins the best of five series 3-1
Ottawa at Philadelphia
Game 1. Ottawa 4 Flyers 3 (overtime). Chris Phillips scores at 14:30 of OT to give the Sens the win. Primeau had 2 goals for the Flyers
Game 2. Ottawa 0 Philadelphia 3. Leclair, Recchi, and S.Gagne all scored in the 2nd. Roman Cechmanek got the shutout.
Game 3. Philadelphia 2 Ottawa 3 (overtime). Marian Hossa scores at 4:14 for the winner for the winner. It was his 2nd goal of the game.
Game 4. Philadelphia 2 Ottawa 0. Dopita and Willams score as Cechmanek gets the shutout.
Game 5. Ottawa 3 Philadelphia 6 . S.Gagne had two goals, J.Roenick a goal and 2 assists, and Marty Murray a goal and an assist to lead the Flyers .

Islanders at Toronto
GAme 1- Islanders 1 at Toronto 2 . Mats Sundin scored two goals to lead the Leafs to 2-1 win over the Islanders.
Game 2- Islanders 2 Toronto 3 (overtime) . Gary Roberts second goal of the game at 2:19 of overtime was the game winner. Mogilny 1g1a, Kaberle 2a.
3- Toronto 3 Islanders 1 .Mikeal Renberg scores twice as the Leafs sweep the Islanders.
Toronto wins the best of five series 3-0

Los Angeles at Detroit
Game 1. Los Angeles 2 Detroit 1. Jamie Storr stopped 32/33 shots and 4/5 goalie ratings as the Kings win game 1. Heinze, Deadmarsh, Hull
Game 2. Detroit 3 at Los Angeles 1 . Brendan Shanahan and Brett Hull each scored powerplay goals and Steve Yzerman scored in the second period as the Wings built up a 3-0 lead and cruised to a big win to tie the series.
#3 Los Angeles 0 at Detroit 2. Brett Hull and Brendan Shanahan were again heroes as they each scored once, and Dominek Hasek stopped 25 (2/2 gr)shots for the shutout.
Detroit Wins the best of three series 2-1.
Phoenix at Chicago
Game 1. Phoenix 5 Chicago 4 Phoenix scored four first period goals and then hung on for the win. Chicago had tied the game at 4-4 early in the third after being down 4-1 at the end of the first period. But Teppo Nummenin scored late in the third for the game winner. Goal Scorers: Ph-L.Nagy,pp, D.Markov,pp, L.Wilson, B.May, Nummenin C- E.Daze, M.Bell, P.White, S.Sullivan.
Game 2. Chicago 3 at Phoenix 2 (overtime) Chicago got an overtime goal from Mikeal Nylander at 12:31 to win game two. Shane Doan had tied the game at 17:43 of the third. PH-L.Nagy, S.Doan. CHI-A.Zhamnov, S.Sullivan, M.Nylander.
Game 3. Phoenix 3 at Chicago 0. Phoenix was outshot 33-22 but picked up a big 3-0 victory by scoring in each period. Sean Burke was outstanding stopping all 33 shots including 3/3 on the goalie ratings. C.Lemieux (2) and L.Nagy scored for Phoenix. 2 of the 3 Phoenix goals came on the powerplay.
Phoenix Coyotes win the best of three series 2-1.
Toronto at Carolina
Game 1. Toronto 4 at Carolina 6. Toronto jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead on a goal by Mats Sundin. But Carolina scored 3 goals in 3 minutes on Curtis Joseph to take a 3-1 lead and never looked back. CAR- Vasicek(3), B.Hedican, R.Brind’Amour, M.Malik. TOR- M.Sundin, G.Roberts, D.Tucker(2).
Game 2. Carolina 7 at Toronto 2. Sami Kapanen scored three goals and the Hurricanes added singles by Brind’Amour, BAttaglia, Vasicek and Aaron Ward.
Carolina Hurricanes win the best of three series 2-0.
Montreal at Philadelphia
Game 1. Montreal 2 at Philadelphia 1. Jose Theodore stood on his head stopping 21/22 shots and all six goalie ratings to lead the Canadiens to the victory. Richard Zednik and Andreas Dackell added first period goals to give the Habs some breathing room. Simon Gagne’s powerplay marker was the only goal for the Flyers.
Game 2. Philadelphia 3 at Montreal 0. Roman Cechmanek stood on his head and sotpped 32 shots and all 6 goalie ratings to earn the first star. Jose Theodore was the second star (21 saves, 2 GA, 1 eng, 5/6 GR) , and John Leclair was the third star (1 G, 1 A). G-Leclair, Fedotenko, JOhnsson.
Game. 3. Montreal at Philadelphia

Phoenix at Detroit
#1. Phoenix 2 Detroit 1 . Detroits dominates the first two periods and Phoenix scores a powerplay goal in the third to break the momentum. Ossi Vaananen fires an outside shot with a minute left and the Coyotes steal game one.
#2. Detroit 3 at Phoenix 2. Phoenix dominates the first period but Detroit scores two powerplay goals by Jason Williams and Luc Robitaille to pull ahead 2-1. Daymond Langkow scores late in the second to tie it, but Jason Williams scores 55 seconds after Langkow and the Wings win it 3-2.
#1. Phoenix 3 Detroit 4 . With two minutes to go the Coyotes led 3-2. But Detroit pulls their goalie and Chris Chelios scores at 19:06 to tie the game. Then with just 6 seconds left on the clock, Brendan Shanahan scores to give the Wings a huge 4-3 win. Steve Yzerman assisted on both late goals. Three stars: 1) Shanahan 1G,1A 2) Fedorov 1G,1A 3) Kolanos 1G,1A.
Detroit wins the best of three two games to one.
Carolina at Philadelphia
Game #1. Carolina 3 at Philadelphia 2.
The Flyers came out strong in the first period but Kevin Weekes stood tall. The Hurricanes took over in the second period and saw goals from Francis, O’Neill and Malik. Carolina had a big 3-1 lead after two periods and hung on for a 3-2 win in game one. Simon Gagne and Adam Oates scored for the Flyers.
Game 2. Philadelphia 2 at Carolina 1.
The goalies were the story of the game. Roman Cechmanek stopped 29 shots (4/4 gr) to lead the Flyers to a huge 2-1 win to tie the series and earn the first star. Kevin Weekes was the second star as he stopped 37 shots (3/4 gr). Adam Oates with the game tieing goal for the Flyers was the third star. Other goal scorers were Simon Gagne and Rod Brind’Amour for Carolina.
Game #3. Carolina 1 at Philadelphia 3.
Flyres get a huge performance from Roman Cechmanek as he stops 38 shots and is 5/5 on goalie ratings as the Flyers defeat Carolina 3-1. The home team was outshot 39-28 but Simon Gagne provided a goal and an assist to lead the Flyers and earn the second star. Bates Battaglia with the lone Carolina goal was the third star. Mark Recchi and Eric Desjardins also scored for the Flyers.
Philadelphia Flyers win the best of three series 2-1.

Philadelphia at Detroit
#1 Philadelphia 1 at Detroit 2 . Sergei Fedorov scores his second goal of the game 2:24 into overtime on the powerplay as the Detroit Red Wings take game one. Goalies: Cechmanek, Phi, 20 saves 4/5, Hasek, Det, 32 saves 8/8. Mark Recchi scored the lone Phlly goal. Three stars: 1-Hasek 2- Fedorov 3- Cechmanek.
#2 Detroit 0 at Philadelphia 6
Flyers blow out the Red Wings at home as the Roenick-Leclair-Ranheim lines scores four goals. Roenick (2), Leclair (2), M.Murray and Fedotenko all scored. Flyers outshot the Red Wings 36-19.
#1 Philadelphia 0 at Detroit 3. Sergei Fedorov scores the first two goals of the game and puts on a dominating performance as the Detroit Red Wings take game three and win the Stanley Cup. Brett Hull had the other Detroit goal. Goalies: Cechmanek, Phi, 27 saves 5/6 gr , Hasek, Det, 26 saves 2/2 gr. Three Stars: 1. Sergei Fedorov 2. Igor Larionov (2 assists) 3. Dominek Hasek.

Mike Modano socres his second goal of the game with just seconds left on the clock as the Dallas Stars advance in this tournament. Game was very even until the third period when the Stars outshot the Oilers 15-2.
Columbus 1 Minnesota 2
The Wild get two powerplay goals from Zholtok and Gaborik to defeat the Blue Jackets. Vyborny scored for Columbus
Game 1- Atlanta 2 Columbus 1
J.P.Vigier had a goal and an assist to lead the Thrashers to a win. Ron Tugnutt was superb stopping all 7 goalie ratings.
Game 2- Atlanta 2 Columbus 6.
Rostislav Klesla has three goals as the unlikely Columbus hero.
