OCTOBER

Buffalo 5 at Boston 6 Don Marcotte scores with just 50 seconds left as the Boston Bruins defeat the Buffalo Sabres. Fred Stanfield
had two goals for the Sabres, and Phil Esposito chipped in two goals for the Bruins. Bobby Orr had a goal and 4 assists for Boston
Vancouver 4 at St.Louis 2 Bob Dailey and Dennis Ververgaert each had a goal and an assist as the Canucks win in St.Louis. Andre Boudrias
chipped in two assists for the Canucks
Toronto 6 at California 6. The Seals had this one won. With just 11 minutes to play California lead 6-2. But Toronto stored back with four
goals in the last 11 minutes to tie it. George Ferguson tied the game with just 48 seconds left while on the powerplay. Darryl Sittler, Larry Patey
and Dave Hrechosky each had two goals. Errol Thompson of Toronto had 4 assists as Toronto was 3/6 on the powerplay.
Montreal 1 at Los Angeles 5 The Kings get goals from 5 different players and Rogatien Vachon was the star stopping 36/37 shots and 4/5 goalie
ratings.
Detroit 8 at Washington 0 Mickey Redmond had two goals and Nick Libett and Marcel Dionne each had 1 goal and 2 assists to lead the Wingers
over the Capitals
Philadelphia 4 at NY Rangers 2 Bill Barber scored twice and the Flyers defeat the Rangers.
Minnesota 2 at Kansas City 3 Fourth liner Robin Burns had a goal and an assist to lead the Scouts to their first win. Lynn Powis and Guy Charron
also scored for KC. Ernie Hicke and Doug Rombough scored for the North Stars who lost goalie Cesare Maniago with an injury early in the game.
NY Islanders 2 at Atlanta 2 Bob Leiter tied the game for the Flames with just 18 seconds left on the powerplay. Bob Nystrom led the Islanders
attack with two goals


NOVEMBER

Toronto 3 at Buffalo 7 Don Luce had a hat trick and Gilbert Perreault and Rick Dudley each chipped in two goals as all three lines were firing
for the Sabres.
California 2 at Boston 4. Boston jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and then hung on for the win.
Pittsburgh 4 at Montreal 3. The Habs jump out to a 3-0 lead but Pittsburgh’s Vic Hadfield scores with just 5 seconds left in the game on a rebound
and the Penguins defeat the Habs .
Washington 0 at Los Angeles 1 Frank St. Marseille scored the only goal of the game as the Kings defeat the Capitals. Washington has yet to score
in two hockey games.
NY Islanders 1 at Philadelphia 2 Bernie Parent stopped 33 shots (6/7 goalie ratings) to lead the Flyers to victory.
Atlanta 5 at NY Rangers 4 Jacques Richard scored with less than 5 minutes left in the game to break a 4-4 tie. Richard had a goal and an assist for the Flames and
Derek Sanderson and Pete Stemkowski had a 1 g 1 a for the Rangers.


DECEMBER

Buffalo 2 at California 4. Gilles Meloche stops 6/8 goalie ratings and 33 shots many of them difficult as the Seals steal a game away from the Sabres.

Boston 6 at Toronto 5 Ken Hodge had three goals, Wayne Cashman 3 assists and Bobby Orr 4 assists for Boston to lead them to victory. Tiger Williams also had a three point night for the Leafs
with two goals and one assist.
Montreal 4 at Detroit 3 Guy Lafleur scores with less than 3 minutes to go to break a 3-3 tie.
Los Angeles 3 at Pittsburgh 6 The Kings outshoot the Penguins but J-Bob Kelly scores twice and Rogatien Vachon was not his best for the Kings as the Penguins
build up a 6-1 lead and cruise to an easy win.
Philadelphia 4 at Atlanta 3 The Flyers get two goals apiece from Tom Bladon and Bobby Clarke and win a big game in Atlanta. The Flyers badly outshot the Flames
46-29.
NY Rangers 5 at NY Islanders 6 Islanders get two goals from Billy Harris and the Rangers get two goals from Derek Sanderson, but the Isles get off
to a great start leading 3-0 eight minutes into the game. Villemure gets pulled in favour of Giacomin and the Rangers come back but not enough.
Vancouver 3 at Minnesota 3 Dennis Hextall scores with less than two minutes to go with the goalie pulled to tie the game. Saves- Gary Smith, Van, 31 (6/9 gr), Cesare
Maniago, Min, 29 saves (4/5 gr).
St.Louis 1 at Chicago 4 Jim Pappin nets a hat trick, one goal was shorthanded, as the Hawks beat the Blues. Saves:STL-John Davidson 30 (4/8 gr), CHI-
Tony Esposito 31 (3/4 gr)


JANUARY

Washington 2 at Montreal 7 Guy Lafleur was a one man show as he had two goals and three assists to lead the Habs to victory.
Detroit 3 at Pittsburgh 2 Danny Grant had two goals to lead the Wings to victory.
Kansas City 3 at Vancouver 8 The line of Don Lever (2g 1a), Andre Boudrias and Dennis Ververgaert(1 g 2 a) each had three points to lead the Canucks
to victory. Gary Croteau had two goals for KC
Minnesota 5 at Chicago 6 Chicago scores two goals with less than 3 minutes in the game to come from behind to win it 6-5. Stan Mikita scores
with just 12 seconds left for the game winner. Mikita had two goals and three assists for the winners. Cesare Maniago was terrific in net for the NOrth
Stars stopping 36 shots and 5/6 goalie ratings
Los Angeles 4 at Detroit 1 Los Angeles’ defense kept the Wings in check as defenseman Bob Murdoch had a goal and an assist to lead the Kings.
Pittsburgh 9 at Washington 5 Pierre Larouche had 3 goals and 3 assists to lead the Pens to victory
St.Louis 1 at Minnesota 0 St.Louis outshoots the North Stars 48-21 but Cesare Maniago was outstanding for Minnesota. The Blues get a powerpaly
goal from Wayne Merrick to win it.
Chicago 3 at Kansas City 4KC shocks Chicago and hands them their first loss of the year. Deadmarsh, Burns, R.Rota and Powis reply for the Scouts.


FEBRUARY

Boston 2 at Buffalo 2 Gilles Gilbert was the hero stopping 44 shots (9/11 gr) as the Bruins tie the Sabres.
Phil Esposito had two goals
for the Bruins and Don Luce had two goals for the Sabres.
California 1 at Toronto 4 Darryl Sittler had two assists as the Leafs beat the Seals.
NY Rangers 3 at Philadelphia 8 Bernie Parent was terrific and Bill Barber and Ross Lonsberry each had two goals as the Flyers beat the Rangers.

Atlanta 1 at NY Islanders 5 JP Parise had two goals as the Islanders dominated much of this game.
Buffalo 2 at Toronto 7 With Rick Martin out of the Sabres lineup, Dave Keon had 3 goals and 2 assists as the Leafs avenge and earlier drubbing
to the Sabres
Boston 4 at California 2 Bobby Schmautz had 3 assists and Gilles Meloche stopped 36 shots as the Bruins beat the SEals

MARCH

California 2 at Buffalo 6
Montreal 5 at Vancouver 3 Habs get two goals each from Guy Lafluer and Yvan Cournoyer to win this own easily. Dennis Ververgaert had two goals
for the Canucks
Toronto 3 at Boston 5 The Bruins score 4 third period goals to win this one after Toronto had control after two periods. Johnny Bucyk and Dave Keon each had two goals for their clubs.
Atlanta 3 at Philadelphia 4 Rick MacLeish had two goals for the Flyers but the big story was Bernie Parent. Parent stopped 6/7 goalie ratings to earn the first star.
NY Islanders 3 at NY Rangers 2The Islanders knock off the Rangers and prevent them from making the playoffs. Bob Bourne scored the winner late in the second period. Steve Vickers had two for the Rangers

Montreal 5 at Vancouver 3 Guy Lafleur and Yvan Cournoyer each had 2 goals and an assist to lead the Habs to victory.
Los Angeles 6 at St.Louis 3 Butch Goring (3g 1a) and Mike Murphy (1g 3a) each had four points to lead the Kings to victory.
Pittsburgh 2 at Chicago 1 Tony Esposito stopped 36/38 shots (6/8 gr) to help the Hawks hang on and make this game close.

Detroit 5 at Minnesota 5 Danny Grant scored with less than five minutes to play to give the Red Wings a tie. Norm Gratton and Doug Rombough
each had a goal and two assists for Minnesota.
Washington 1 at Kansas City 4 The Scouts clinch a playoff spot with this win. Gary Croteau (g,a) Dave Hudson (g,a) and Wilf Paiment (2a) each had two points for KC.
St.Louis 3 at Detroit 7 Marcel Dionne had a hat trick and 4 points, and Michel Bergeron had two goals to lead the Wings. Wayne Merrick
chipped in two goals for the Blues.
Vancouver 5 at Washington 1 Vancouver badly outshoots the Capitals and get three assists from Mike Robitaille and two points from John Gould
(1 g 1 a) to lead the Canucks to victory.
Chicago 1 at Pittsburgh 4 Vic Hadfield had a goal and 2 assists to lead the Pens to a victory.
Kansas City 5 at Montreal 4. Montreal gets eliminated from the playoffs by the KC Scouts. KC scores three times in the last seven minutes to win it.
Denis Herron stood on his head stopping 32 shots , many of them spectacular (10/12 gr). Montreal takes many penalties and Ken Dryden stinks the joint out. Pete Mahovolich
had two goals for the Habs and Simon Nolet had four pts for KC.
Minnesota 1 at Los Angeles 9 Butch Goring had three goals and 2 assists, and Tommy Williams and Mike Murphy each had 2 goals and an assist
as the Kings bombard the North Stars.

OPENING ROUND

#1. Buffalo 1 Vancouver 3 Canucks could do no wrong and the Sabres were flat. Gary Smith proved to be the star stopping 8/9 goalie
ratings as the Canucks take game one.
#2. Vancouver 6 at Buffalo 3 Roger Crozier and Gary Bromley were both awful in this key game as the Canucks get solid netminding from Gary Smith.
Smith stops 11/12 goalie ratings and the Buffalo pair stop 2/7. Gary Monahan with 2 goals, Bob Dailey with 4 assists and Paul Bordeleau with 3
assists led the Vancouver attack

Vancouver wins the best of three series over Buffalo 2-0

#1. Toronto 1 at NY Islanders 7 Leafs get really poor goaltending from Favell and McRae as they let in four outside shots. Islanders
cruise to an easy win in game one. Billy Harris had two goals and Denis Potvin four points to lead the Isles attack.
#2. Islanders 4 at Toronto 1

NY Islanders win the best of three series over Toronto 2-0

#1. Atlanta 3 at Pittsburgh 4 The Penguins battled back from a 3-1 deficit to win game one. Eric Vail had the hat trick for the Flames but
Rick Kehoe had two goals for the Pens. Vic Hadfield scored the winner with less than 4 minutes left.
#2 Pittsburgh 2 at Atlanta 1 Pierre Larouche scored 5:18 into overtime on the powerplay to give the Pens the win and eliminate the Atlanta Flames.
Pittsburgh wins the best of three series over Atlanta 2-0

#1 Chicago 5 at Detroit 0 Hawks surprise the Wings and everything goes right for Chicago. Esposito was unbeatable and Cliff Koroll had two
goals for Chicago. Jim Pappin was also strong chipping in 1 G 2 A.
#2 Detroit 4 at Chicago 7 Chicago dominates again to win the series.

Chicago wins the best of three series over Detroit 2-0



QUARTERFINAL ROUND

#1 Vancouver 5 at Boston 3. NOthing seemed to go right for the Bruins. Chris Oddleifson and Garry Monahan each had a goal and an assit for the Canucks
and Mike Robitaille chipped in 3 assists. Phil Esposito had two goals for the Bruins.
#2 Boston 3 at Vancouver 2 Bobby Orr, Wayne Cashman and Johnny Bucyk all scored to give the Bruins a 3-0 lead. But Vancouver fought back with two goals from Leon Rochefort. But that was all as the Bruins tie the series and head back to Boston for game three.
#3. Vancouver 5 at Boston 8 The Bruins jump out to a 4-0 lead by the ten minute mark of the first period. Greg Sheppard had two goals for the Bruins. But Vancouver battles back to tie it 4-4 after two periods. The Bruins went back on a rampage as the third line of Hodge-Savard-Marcotte score 4 times and the Bruins cruise to an 8-5 win. Don Marcotte had two goals for the Bruins.

Boston wins the best of three series over Vancouver 2-1

 

#1. NY Islanders 5 Los Angeles 4 Rogie Vachon was not himself in game one as the Islanders took advantage of some sloppy goaltending to win game one. Vachon stopped only 3/8 goalie ratings as Bob Nevin and Billy Harris each had two goals for their respective teams.
#1. Los Angeles 3 at NY Islanders 2 Rogie Vachon made up for his poor performance in game one. Vachon stopped 31 shots and 6/7 goalie ratings to earn first star as the Kings even up the series
#3. NY Islanders 2 at Los Angeles 3. For the second game in a row, Rogie Vachon was the story. The Kings were outshot 41-18 but Vachon held the fort. The Isles only trailed once, and that is when Bob Murdoch scored the go ahead goal in the third period. Jude Drouin was the offensive hero for the Islanders with two goals.

Los Angeles wins the best of three series over the NY Islanders 2-1

#1. Kansas City 1 at Pittsburgh 5 The Pens get two goals from Chuck Arnason and dominate from start to finish to win this game.
#2 Pittsburgh 5 at Kansas City 3Penguins gets goals from 5 different players and Syl Apps and Vic Hadfield each have three points as the Penguins defeat the Scouts to win the series

Pittsburgh wins the best of three series over Kansas City 2-0

#1. Chicago 3 at Philadelphia 5. Gary Dornhoefer had two goals and Bernie Parent was solid as the Flyers take game one. Ross Lonsberry chipped in three assists for the Flyers.
#2 Philadelphia 4 at Chicago 1. Reggie Leach and Moose Dupont each had two goals and Bernie Parent was solid as the Flyers sweep the Blackhawks.

Philadelphia wins the best of three series over Chicago 2-0


SEMI-FINAL ROUND


#1. Pittsburgh 2 at Philadelphia 4. Reggie Leach scores twice and the Flyers badly outshoot the Penguins as Philly takes game one.
#2 Pittsburgh 4 at Philadelphia 3
Pierre Larouche scored his second goal of the game just 1:29 minutes into overtime on the powerplay to give the Pens game two to even the series.
#3. Philadelphia 7 at Pittsburgh 1 Bill Barber and Rick MacLeish each had two goals as the Flyers dominate the Penguins from start to finish.

#4. Philadelphia 5 at Pittsburgh 4 Reggie Leach scored with just under 6 minutes to play to break the tie and give the Flyers a come from behind victory.
Bernie Parent was sensational in net for the Flyers stopping 8/11 goalie ratings. Leach had two goals for the Flyers and Chuck Arnason had two goals for the Penguins. Pierre Larouche of Pittsburgh
had 14 shots on net.
Philadelphia wins the best of five series over Pittsburgh 3-1

#1. Los Angeles 5 at Boston 4 Mike Murphy scored with just over a minute left in the game to give the Kings game one. The difference was goaltending as the Bruins
outshot the Kings 37-21. Rogie Vachon was great in net for the Kings (8/8 gr) and Gilles Gilbert was not good for the Bruins. (stopped 3/8 goalie ratings)
$2 Los Angeles 6 at Boston 2 Nothing went right for the Bruins in this one. Bob Murdoch had two goals and Bob Nevin had four points as the Kings dominate
from start to finish. Gilles Gilbert not solid in net for the Bruins
#3. Boston 3 at Los Angeles 1Bobby Schmautz, Wayne Cashman and Bobby Orr each had one goal as the Bruins defeat the Kings to stay alive. Gilles Gilbert
was solid in net for the Bruins to help them puck up the win.
#4. Boston 7 at Los Angeles 1 Gregg Sheppard had two goals and an assist as the Bruins run Rogie Vachon out of the net to win game four and force a fifth
and deciding game.
#5 Los Angeles 7 at Boston 1 Juha Widing had three goals and Rogie Vachon (stopped 9/10 goalie ratings) was fabulous as the Kings destroy the Bruins in game 5. Gilles Gilbert (0/6 goalie ratings)again turned in a
poor performance in front of this home crowd.

Los Angeles wins the best of five series over Boston 3-2


STRAT STANLEY CUP FINAL


#1. Los Angeles 6 at Philadelphia 2 LA scores 3 unanswered third period goals to blow the door wide open and take game one of the series. Butch Goring
led the Kings attack with 3 assists. LA-VAchon 35 shtos (5/6 gr) . PHI- Parent 34 shtos (5/8 gr)

#2. Los Angeles 1 at Philadelphia 3 the Kings dominate the first period and outshoot the Flyers 14-2. But Bernie Parent was solid
and the Flyers get goals from Goodenough, Leach and Joe Watson to build up a 3-0 lead and go on to win game two. Vachon 28 shots (3/4 gr). Parent 25 shtos (4/5 gr)

#3 Philadelphia 3 at Los Angeles 2 (Overtime) Billy Barber scores 56 seconds into overtime as the Flyers take a 2-1 series lead. Butch Goring had
both Kings goals and the Flyers got singles from Gary Dornhoefer and Reggie Leach. Bernie Parent 30 shots (4/5 gr stopped). Vachon 28 shots (4/5 gr stopped)

#4 Philadelphia 2 at Los Angeles 1 (Overtime) Reggie Leach scores on a breakaway in overtime to give the Flyers a 2-1 win and a 3-1 series lead. The Kings led all the way until Bobby Clarke scored with just 2:06 left in the game to tie it and force overtime. Bernie Parent was outstanding for the Flyers earning first star. Parent 40 shots (6/7 gr). Vachon 30 shots (3/4).

#5 Los Angeles 4 at Philadelphia 2 The Kings jumped out to a 4-0 lead by the 3 minute mark of the second period, and then had to hang on as the Flyers mounted their comeback. Dan Maloney led the way for the Kings with two goals. Parent 34 shots (3/6 gr). Vachon 25 shots (5/7) .

#6. Philadelphia 1 at Los Angeles 4 Rogie Vachon was tremendous as the Flyers badly outshoot the Kings 38-22 but still come away with a big win.
Vachon 38 shots (1/1 gr). Parent 22 shots (4/7 gr) . Goal scorers for the Kings were Bob Murdoch, Bob Berry, Tommy Williams and Sheldon Kannegeisser.

#7 Los Angeles 3 at Philadelphia 4 Flyers jumped out to a 2-0 lead on two goals by Ross Lonsberry only to see the Kings come back to tie it up. But Reggie Leach scored twice to give
the Flyers a 4-2 lead, and the home team hung on to win the Strat Replay Stanley Cup. Vachon 28 shots (7/8 gr stopped) Parent 39 shots (8/11).
