Kansas City 2 at Chicago 5 . Big Bill Foster picks up the win in this one defeating the legendary Satchel Paige. Foster gave up just six hits in 8 1/3 innings. B Monroe had three hits and R Dixon had two hits and scored two runs for the American Giants

New York 11 at Homestead 3. The Lincoln Giants get after Homestead opening day starter Bill Byrd for 5 hits and 9 runs in the first inning. Byrd was not helped by the defense as shortstop Joe Beckwith made two key errors. Pop Lloyd scored two runs for the Giants and was 4/6 at the plate. Luis Santop had a key two run double in the first and also went 3/5. Smokey Joe Williams picked up the victory going nine innings (10 hits, 6 K’s, 4 BB, 2 earned runs)

Hilldale 2 at St.Louis 7. TEd Trent tosses a great game giving up just two runs on nine hits for the victory. Willie Wells hammered two home runs for the Stars taking Leroy Matlock deep once and then taking Nip Winters deep in the eighth. Willie also scored three runs. Mule Suttles also hit a dinger for the Stars. Bernando Brado had two hits and a run scored for the Daisies.

St.Louis 3 at Chicago 8. DAve Brown goes a complete nine innings for Chicago and gives up just 7 hits in the win. But Quincey Trouppe was the big gun picking up five RBI’s in this one. Quincy had a triple, sac , fly and a two run shot to lead the American Giants. Alec Radcliffe had two rbi’s for Chicago and scored two runs, and Turkey Stearnes also scored twice.

Kansas City 1 at Homestead 10 Joe Beckwith had a big homerun and a double along with 4 RBI’s and Vic Harris had two homeruns as the Homestead Greys layed a licking on the KC Monarchs Brown picked up the win giving up just 8 hits.

Hilldale 4 at New York 9 Tubby Scales had a double, home run and 3 RBIs as NY beats up on Hilldale. Max Manning picked up the win giving up 10 hits and striking out 2 in going the distance.

Hilldale 8 at Homestead 9 (10 innings) Bill Wright had a walk, double, homerun and scored twice (including the game winning run) with 4 RBI’s as Homestead defeats HIlldale in a tight ball game. Hilldale jumped all over the starter Byrd in the first for six runs. But Homestead came back with four int he bottom of the second and 3 in the bottom of the eighth. Josh Gibson’s sac fly in the tenth wins it .

New York 5 at Chicago 4 Fats Jenkins had 3 RBIs on a single, double, and home run as New YOrk defeats Chicago. Teammate Chino Smith also had a home run and two rbi’s for NY. Chicago got two rbi’s from Pete Hill as he went 2/4.

St.Louis 2 at KC Monarchs 5.  

Chicago 8  at Hilldale 3. Quincey Trouppe  was 4/5 with a home run, double and two rbis to lead the Chicago attack.  Turkey Stearns also hit a three run shot in the top of the ninth to put this game away. Rube Foster picked up the win and Martin Dihigo picked up the loss.  Bernardo Baro had two rbis for Hilldale.

Kansas City Monarchs at New York Lincoln Giants. KC scored one in the first when Buck O’Neil singled home TJ Young. But New York came back in the vengeance in the third inning.  Fats Jenkins singled, Chino Smith got hit by a pitch, and then singles by Luis Santop, Chaney White and Ray Dandridge scored three runs for the home team. The Monarchs closed  the lead in the 6th when Oscar Johnson tripled and scored on Williard Brown’s ground out.  But that is how it ended, New York beats Kansas City 3-2.  Day was the winner and Rogan was the loser. 




HOmestead at St.Louis. Negro tournament. Homestead Grays 14 at St.Louis Stars 5 .  Homestead jumps all over pitchers Roosevelt Davis and Bill Drake for a combined 14 runs on 16 hits. Josh Gibson led the way with two home runs and five rbis. Buck Leonard had two doubles , a triple and three rbis. For St.Louis Candy Jim Taylor hit a double, a triple and had three rbis. Sam Streeter went the distance for the win.

Homestead at Chicago. Negro leagues. Homestead 9 at Chicago American Giants 8.. Chicago jumped all over Bill Byrd for 9 hits and 5 runs in teh second inning only to see HOmestead score 8 runs in teh final two innings in a huge come from behind 9-8 victory for Homestead. Josh Gibson’s 3 run shot in the top of the ninth was the big blow for Homestead. Sammy Hughes also had three rbis for the Grays. Quincy Trouppe , Turkey Stearnes and Bill Monroe all had three rbis for Chicago in the loss. Big Bill Foster was terrific for Chicago for 7+ innings. But things fell apart in the 8th and Tommy Williams and Willie Powell could not save the day.




St.Louis Stars 8 at New York Lincoln Giants 6. St.Louis jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings only to see NY chip away and make it 5-3 after six innings. But the Stars score three in the top of the eight to pull away and then hang on for dear life as the Giants score three in the bottom of the ninth to make things close. But St.Louis hangs on for a big 8-6 win. For the Stars Oscar Charleston had a home run and two rbis as did Willie Wells and Candy Jim Taylor. Ted Trent the pitcher had a key two run single in the bottom  of the eighth to help his cause. For the Lincoln Giants Chaney White score a run and had two rbis. Tubby Scales had a solo shot, Pop Lloyd went 4/6 with and rbi and Chino Smith went 2/5 with a run scoring single. Leon Day started for the Giants and Ted Trent picked up the win for the Stars.

Negro leagues. Hilldale at KC Monarchs . Hilldale explodes for six runs in the eighth inning to blow this one open. They had a 3-2 lead going into the inning.  The key hit was a two run double by Bill Mackey. Tank Carr, Bernardo Baro, Alejandro Oms, Red Parnell, Judy Johnson and Sam Bankfield all had two hits each in this game. Chet Brewer took the loss and Leroy Matlock picked up the win going the distance giving up five hits and two runs.  Final score Hilldale 9  KC 2.
