MLB 2007

The 2007 World Series, the 103rd edition of Major League Baseball’s championship series, began on Wednesday, October 24 and ended on Sunday, October 28.It featured the National League champion Colorado Rockies—making their first World Series appearance—and the American League champion Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox won the Series in four games, sweeping the Rockies to collect their second World Series championship in four seasons and their seventh overall; it also marked the third sweep in four years by the AL champion.

#5. LA Angels 3 at Cleveland 5.In an exciting finish the Cleveland Indians pulled out a win over the Los Angeles(AL) Angels by a score of 5 to 3 at Jacobs Field. Cleveland won the game with a rally in the bottom of the 9th inning scoring 2 runs using 2 hits. Asdrubal Cabrera led off and started the rally when he delivered a base-hit. Grady Sizemore got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Ben Francisco then lifted one out of the park for a two run home run (his 1st of the season) making Cleveland victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd. Los Angeles(AL) had 12 hits in the game while Cleveland had 7, but Cleveland had the more timely hits. Rafael Betancourt(2-1) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings. The critical plate appearance was by Sean Casey who helped quiet the crowd when he doubled bringing in two baserunners. Both teams finished the game with 8 hits. Posada was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day at their team’s expense. He doubled in the 1st inning, delivered a base-hit knocking in a run in the 2nd inning, lined a single in the 5th inning and smashed a two-run homer (his 1st of the season) in the 7th inning. New York (AL) ended up with 10 hits for the game while Detroit had 7. Andy Pettitte(2-1) was the winner allowing 1 run in 7 and 1/3 innings. Kenny Rogers(0-1) was the loser. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 9 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.

#4. Yankees 6 at Detroit 8 12 innings Placido Polanco had 3 base hits at Comerica Park as the Detroit Tigers beat the New York (AL) Yankees in 12 innings 8 to 6. Both teams were tied at 6 runs apiece after nine innings. Detroit came out the victor in the 12th inning. Polanco led off the inning for Detroit when he drew a walk. Two outs later Marcus Thames stepped in and he popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 2nd of the season) resulting in an exciting win for Detroit and a raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans. Detroit had a total of 12 hits for the game. The win went to Tim Byrdak(1-1) who allowed no runs in 3 innings. Brian Bruney(0-1) ended up with the loss in relief. He allowed 1 run and no hits in 2/3 of an inning.

#5. Detroit 2 at Yankees 8Bobby Abreu hit one over the fence and had 2 RBI as the New York (AL) Yankees topped the Detroit Tigers by a score of 8 to 2 at Yankee Stadium. The New York (AL) fans enjoyed the offense provided by Abreu. He doubled plating a run in the 4th inning, doubled in the 5th inning and smashed a solo-shot out of the park (his 2nd of the season) in the 7th inning. New York (AL) totaled 9 hits on the night. Hamels(2-0) had a strong outing. He surrendered only 8 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings lowering his ERA from 5.14 to 3.52. Philadelphia managed 14 hits in their victory. Schroder got help from Chad Cordero who was credited with his 4th save. Aaron Cook(1-1) took the loss.

#2. Colorado 5 at Washington 2. Todd Helton smashed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at RFK STADIUM as the Colorado Rockies beat the Washington Nationals by the count of 5 to 2. Helton provided much of the offense. He cracked a solo homerun in the 1st inning, smashed a two-run homer (his 3rd of the season) in the 5th inning and ripped a base-knock bringing in a run in the 9th inning. Colorado had a total of 9 hits for the game. Jeff Francis(1-1) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings. Francis got help from Brian Fuentes who was credited with his 1st save. Tim Redding(1-2) took the loss.

#3. Washington 13 at Colorado 7. Ronnie Belliard had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the Washington Nationals defeated the Colorado Rockies 13 to 7 at Coors Field. Belliard provided the offensive punch. He hit a bases-empty home run (his 2nd of the season) in the 1st inning, doubled resulting in a run in the 2nd inning, slapped a single which scored a run in the 5th inning and delivered a base-hit in the 9th inning. Despite scoring in 5 separate innings, Colorado could not get the win. John Lannan(1-0) went 5 innings allowing 6 runs for the win. Franklin Morales(1-1) was hit with the loss. He gave up 5 runs and 7 hits in 1 and 2/3 innings.

#4. Washington 4 at Colorado 2. In a good matchup it was the Washington Nationals 4, the Colorado Rockies 2 at Coors Field. Chris Schroder(4-1) came on to close the door tight in relief. No one was able to reach base in his 2 innings and mowed down 5 Colorado batters seeing his ERA drop from 5.40 to 4.61. Washington out-hit Colorado for the game, 10 hits to 5. Schroder got help from Chad Cordero who was credited with his 5th save. The losing pitcher was Jeremy Affeldt(0-1) in relief. He was unable to retire a batter allowing 1 hit and 1 walk.
