JANUARY GAMES

Vancouver 3 at Calgary 4.  eir home arena the Flames squeezed out a victory over the Canucks by a final tally of 4 to 3. MARK JANKOWSKI netted the last goal, the game winner, at 19:21 of the 3rd period. Others who scored were ELIAS
PETTERSSON, BRANDON SUTTER and LOUI ERIKSSON for Vancouver and MIKAEL BACKLUND, ELIAS LINDHOLM and ANDREW MANGIAPANE for Calgary.

Florida 2 at Tampa 7.  In their home arena the Lightning romped over the Panthers by a score of 7 to 2. Tampa Bay finished with a flurry scoring 3 times in the third period. ANTHONY CIRELLI found the net twice and contributed one assist
for Tampa Bay. Others registering goals were JONATHAN HUBERDEAU and HENRIK BORGSTRÖM for Florida and NIKITA KUCHEROV, STEVEN STAMKOS, MATHIEU JOSEPH, ALEX KILLORN and RYAN McDONAGH for Tampa Bay.

Los Angeles 1 at San Jose 5.  In front of a cheering crowd the Sharks had no difficulty defeating the Kings by the final tally of 5 to 1. San Jose scored 3 goals in the second period. ERIK KARLSSON had three assists for San Jose. MARTIN JONES was outstanding in goal. He allowed just one goal while facing 29 shots. Goal scorers were ILYA KOVALCHUK for Los Angeles and TOMAS HERTL, KEVIN LABANC, LUKAS RADIL, JOONAS DONSKOI and MELKER KARLSSON for San Jose.

Edmonton 6 at Vegas 7 (OVERTIME).  On their home ice the Golden Knights won a close one against the Oilers by the score of 7 to 6. The game was all offense with the lamp being lit a total of 13 times. Vegas sustained a constant attack outshooting the Oilers 48 to 32. Vegas got going early, scoring 3 times in the first period. JONATHAN MARCHESSAULT scored the game’s final goal at 4:16 of overtime. LEON DRAISAITL came up big, he went for the hat-trick and passed for two assists for Edmonton. And RYAN NUGENT-HOPKINS scored twice and added three assists. Also MARCHESSAULT was dominating, scoring a hat-trick on 8 shots for Vegas. PAUL STASTNY had two goals and contributed two assists. ALEX TUCH scored once and passed for three assists. Other goal scorers were ALEX CHIASSON for Edmonton and OSCAR LINDBERG for Vegas.

Ottawa 4 at Boston 3.  The visiting team from Ottawa won a close one against the Bruins by the final score of 4 to 3. BRADY TKACHUK netted the winning goal at 7:21 of the 3rd period. MATT DUCHENE scored twice on 6 shots and contributed one assist for Ottawa. Others who scored were RUDOLFS BALCERS for Ottawa and JAKE DEBRUSK, DANTON HEINEN and DAVID BACKES for Boston.

Anaheim 0 at Arizona 1. In front of a cheering crowd the Coyotes won a close one against the Ducks by a final tally of 1 to 0. The defense for both squads was stout as the offenses struggled to score. NICK SCHMALTZ recorded the only goal of the game at 0:10 of the 2nd period. ANTTI RAANTA was outstanding in goal. He recorded the shutout while facing 43 shots.

Colorado 3  at Nashville 2 (OVERTIME) .  The visitors from Colorado won a close one against the Predators by the final score of 3 to 2. NATHAN MacKINNON netted the last goal, the game winner, at 1:05 of overtime. Other goal scorers were GABRIEL LANDESKOG and CARL SODERBERG for Colorado and NICK BONINO and COLTON SISSONS for Nashville.

Minnesota 4 at St.Louis 2.  In a close game, the Wild won over the Blues by the final tally of 4 to 2. Goals were registered by ZACH PARISE, MIKAEL GRANLUND, BRAD HUNT and NINO NIEDERREITER for Minnesota and VLADIMIR TARASENKO and RYAN O’REILLY for St. Louis. With the road victory Minnesota has now recorded 3 wins and 6 points for the season.

Chicago 0 at Dallas 2. In a close game, the Stars won over the Black Hawks by the final tally of 2 to 0. Dallas sustained a constant attack outshooting the Black Hawks 46 to 30. The game’s initial goal was sufficient as RADEK FAKSA lit the
lamp 7:55 of the 2nd period. BEN BISHOP was outstanding in goal. He was flawless in the shutout while facing 30 shots. A goal was also registered by TYLER PITLICK for Dallas.

Columbus 3 at Washington 2 (SHOOTOUT).  The visitors from Columbus prevailed in a shootout over the Capitals by a final tally of 3 to 2. The shootout’s game deciding goal was recorded by ARTEMI PANARIN. The Blue Jackets was 2 for 2 in shootout attempts, while the Capitals went 0 for 2. Columbus poured on the pressure outshooting the Capitals 47 to 29. Goal scorers were JOSH ANDERSON and BOONE JENNER for Columbus and ALEX OVECHKIN and BRETT CONNOLLY for Washington.

Detroit 2 at Toronto 3 (Overtime). In front of a cheering crowd the Maple Leafs squeezed out a victory over the Red Wings by the final score of 3 to 2. JOHN TAVARES scored the game’s final goal at 4:06 of overtime. TAVARES scored twice on 7 shots and contributed one assist for Toronto. And MORGAN RIELLY scored once on 6 shots and added two assists. Other goal scorers were ANTHONY MANTHA and THOMAS VANEK for Detroit.

Buffalo 3 at Montreal 2 (SHOOTOUT) . The team from Buffalo prevailed in a shootout over the Canadiens by the score of 3 to 2. The shootout’s game deciding goal was scored by KYLE OKPOSO. The Sabres was 2 for 3 in shootout attempts, while the Canadiens went 1 for 3. Goal scorers were JACK EICHEL and JAKE McCABE for Buffalo and BRENDAN GALLAGHER and MAX DOMI for Montreal.

New Jersey 2 at New York Islanders 4.   Thomas Greiss picks up the win as the Islanders defeat the Devils at home in a tight game.

NY Rangers 3 at Pittsburgh 2 (SHOOTOUT) .  The visiting team from New York R won a shootout against the Penguins by the final score of 3 to 2. The shootout’s game deciding goal was scored by JIMMY VESEY. The Rangers was 2 for 5 in shootout attempts, while the Penguins went 1 for 5. The goals were scored by CHRIS KREIDER and KEVIN SHATTENKIRK for New York R and PATRIC HORNQVIST and MATT CULLEN for Pittsburgh.

Philadelphia 0 at Carolina 3 .  In front of a cheering crowd the Hurricanes had an easy win over the Flyers by a final score of 3 to 0. The first goal was enough as LUCAS WALLMARK scored 10:44 of the 1st period. CURTIS McELHINNEY was outstanding in goal. He recorded the shutout while facing 27 shots. Other goal scorers were SEBASTIAN AHO and MICHEAL FERLAND for Carolina.
