Opening round Columbus and Pittsburgh

Game 1. Columbus 7 at Pittsburgh 3. The Blue Jackets proved they would not be pushovers in this series. They batter Matt Murray until he gets pulled and Bobrovsky was solid as the Blue Jackets easily win game one.

Game 2. Columbus 3 at Pittsburgh 4. In what was essentially a must win game, the Penguins had to battle hard but in the end they picked up the win in this evenly played contest.

Game 3. Pittsburgh 3 at Columbus 2 (overtime) This was a tight one that anyone could have have. But it was Evegeny Malkin with his second of the scoring in overtime to give the Pens the win and a 2-1 series lead. Phil Kessel had the other Penguin goal. Pierre-Luc Dubois and Vanek replied for the home team. Penguins out shot the Blue Jackets 11-4 in overtime as Bobrovsky was terrific in the loss. Pens outshoot the home team 46-42.

GAME STORY
In a strong showing away from home, Pittsburgh won a close one against  the Blue Jackets by a final tally of 5 to 4. Pittsburgh poured on the  pressure outshooting the Blue Jackets 40 to 26. Pittsburgh finished strong with 3 goals in the third period. DERICK BRASSARD closed out the scoring with the game winner at 17:04 of the 3rd period. PHIL KESSEL scored one goal on 8 shots and passed for two assists for Pittsburgh. And BRASSARD scored once and contributed two assists. Also KRIS LETANG had three assists. JOSH ANDERSON found the net twice for Columbus. Others registering goals were SIDNEY CROSBY, EVGENI MALKIN and RILEY SHEAHAN for Pittsburgh and SETH JONES and OLIVER BJORKSTRAND for Columbus.

Game 5. Columbus at Pittsburgh. Columbus is hurting as Atkinson cannot go this game. Penguins close out the series with a decisive win and now meet Washington.

GAME STORY
In their home arena the Penguins easily handled the Blue Jackets by the 
final tally of 5 to 2.   Goal scorers were DAVID SAVARD and SONNY MILANO 
for Columbus and SIDNEY CROSBY, JAKE GUENTZEL, PHIL KESSEL, CONOR SHEARY 
and OLLI MAATTA for Pittsburgh.  With the victory Pittsburgh now has 6 
wins and 13 points on the season.

 

 

Opening round . Chicago vs Nashville

Game 1. Chicago 2 at Nashville 5. The Black Hawks took a 2-0 early lead despite being outchanced and outshot by the Predators. Corey Crawford was terrific after two period stopping 34 of 35 shots. But the roof caved in in the final period and Nashville scored four times to win this one going away 5-2 in a dominant performance . Nashville outshot the Hawks 53-29 and outchanced them 14-5. Arvidsson led the Nashville attack with three goals. PK Subban chipped in three assists. Other scorers were Scott Hartnell and Filip Forsberg. For the Hawks it was Artem Anisimov and Hinistoroza.

GAME STORY
In a close game, the Predators topped the Black Hawks by a score of 4
to 2. BRENT SEABROOK scored twice for Chicago. And ROMAN JOSI had two
goals for Nashville. Others registering goals were KYLE TURRIS and AUSTIN
WATSON for Nashville. With the victory Nashville now has 5 wins and 11
points on the season.

GAme 3. Nashville 1 at Chicago 3. Chicago puts on a very strong performance and outplays the Predators in Chicago. Corey Crawford was terrific in stopping 9/10 goalie ratings in earning first star and the victory. Scoring for Chicago were Forsling, Hayden and Anisimov. ARvidsson replied for Nashville.

Game 4. Nashville 3 at Chicago 5. . Blackhawks tie the series with another strong effort against Nashville. Nashville took2-0 and 3-1 leads, but the Hawks battled back and scored four times in the third period to win it.
