Twins win Strat World Series in five games over Atlanta

Mike Smithson threw six hit ball over nine innings and the Minnesota Twins went on to defeat the Atlanta Braves 4-1 in the best of seven Strat World series.

Game 4. Twins up 3 games to 1 .

Minnesota breaks open a 4-4 tie in the top of the eighth with a big four run rally to go on and defeat the Atlanta Braves 10-5 and take a commanding 3-1 series lead in the Strat World SEries. Kent Hrbek hit the decisive blow off of Terry Forster, a three run shot, to put the Twins up for good. Dale Murphy and Claudell Washington also hit home runs. Frank Viola improves his record to 4-1.

Game 3. Braves get back in the series

Len Whitehouse walked two batters in the bottom of the eighth with the scored tied and the Atlanta Braves survived a ninth inning scare as Steve Bedrosian again had problems, but held on for the save. Atlanta now trails 2-1 in the best of seven Strat World Series from 1984

Game 4. Braves win 84 NL series

Atlanta Braves won a dramatic crowd-pleaser over New York Mets at Fulton Co
Stadium pulling it out in their last at bats, 5 to 4.

Atlanta scored the deciding run in the bottom of the 9th inning. After an out
was recorded, Gerald Perry singled. Steve Bedrosian stepped up to the plate
and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Albert Hall then slapped a one-base hit
making Atlanta the winners and sending the 52,879 fans home happy. Both
teams totaled 9 hits on the night.

Bedrosian(3-1) got the win allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings. Jesse
Orosco(0-2) suffered the loss in relief. His ERA increased from 2.08 to 3.60
as he allowed 1 run in 2/3 of an inning.

Game 3. Mets at Braves


Atlanta does not close it out and now has a 2-1 lead in the best of five series.

Keith Hernandez had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the New York Mets bested the
Atlanta Braves in 11 innings 3 to 1 at Fulton Co Stadium.

Both teams were tied at 1 runs apiece after nine innings. New York came out
the victor in the 11th inning. After an out was recorded, Wally Backman
initiated the scoring spurt when he reached on an error. Backman got a good
lead and stole second. Hernandez then tripled knocking in a run. George
Foster was up next and he hit a sacrifice fly scoring the final run of the
inning. New York finished with just 6 hits in the victory.

The win was credited to Tom Gorman(1-0) who went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing no
runs. Steve Bedrosian(2-1) was charged with the loss in relief. It was a
tough loss for him as he did not allow an earned run in his 1 inning of work.

Twins win ALCS in extra innings

Minnesota wins the Strat ALCS in five games as this one went into extra innings.

Mike Smithson struck out 11 batters as the Minnesota Twins outscored the
Toronto Blue Jays in 15 innings 4 to 3.

Both teams had scored 2 runs after nine full innings. Minnesota won the hard
fought contest in the 15th inning. Dave Engle slapped a one-base hit. Gary
Gaetti stepped into the batter’s box and he ripped a base-hit. Ron
Washington then grounded into a double play. Kirby Puckett stepped in and he
laced a base-knock making Minnesota the winners and sending the 50,404 fans
home happy. Minnesota finished with 11 hits in the victory.

Len Whitehouse(2-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Dennis
Lamp(1-1) ended up with the loss in relief. He allowed 3 hits and no walks
in 1 inning.

Wth the win Minnesota now has a record of a division leading 10-4. With this
loss, Toronto has a 4-6 record of late, 7-6 overall.
