G5. Cubs at Indians

With the crowd on their collective feet, screaming at the top of their lungs,
Cleveland Indians rallied to top Chicago (NL) Cubs by the score of 6 to
5.

Cleveland scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning scoring 2
runs utilizing 3 base hits. Brandon Guyer led off and started the rally when
he doubled. Abraham Almonte struck out, unable to help the rally. Marlon
Byrd then doubled scoring a single run. Jason Kipnis stepped in and he
slapped a one-base hit resulting in a mighty exciting win for Cleveland and
the 35,052 home town fans in attendance. A wild and woolly affair, this game
saw the lead change 5 times.

The winning pitcher was Cody Allen(1-0) who allowed no runs in 1 and 2/3
innings. Aroldis Chapman(0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. Terry
Francona was in great spirits in his post-game interview. Yet, when asked
about his feelings after the thrilling comeback victory, he volunteered,
‘I’ll tell you this much – I know how my counterpart, Joe Maddon, feels right
now – and it’s not very good. It’s terrible when you come up on the short
end of one of these!’
