WILDCARD GAMES

SEATTLE AT BOSTON

Seattle 3 at Boston 2. The Seattle Mariners and the Boston Red Sox locked up in an exciting one-run game at Fenway Park. The final score was the Seattle Mariners 3, the Boston Red Sox 2. Seattle won the game with a rally in the top of the 8th inning plating 2 runs using 2 hits. Cameron Maybin kicked off the action when he drew a walk. Maybin was safe on a stolen base. Mike Zunino dug into the batters box next, but he struck out. One out later, Jean Segura came to bat and doubled driving in a run. Robinson Cano stepped into the box and hit a single scoring the final run of the inning. Boston made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. James Pazos(2-0) went 1 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the win. Edwin Diaz preserved the game for Pazos, recording his his 3rd save. David Price(1-1) was given the loss. He allowed just 3 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings.

 

 

 

 

 

 

LA DODGERS 0  AT ST.LOUIS 1  .  John Gant had an impressive outing as the St. Louis Cardinals won at Busch
Stadium in dramatic fashion over the Los Angeles(NL) Dodgers, the final
score, 1 to 0.

The game was won by St. Louis when they scored a run in the 9th inning. Yairo
Munoz lined a one-base hit. Matt Carpenter followed and he laid down a
sacrifice bunt. Yadier Molina dug into the batters box next, but he struck
out. Jose Martinez came up and he doubled resulting in a mighty exciting win
for St. Louis and the 36,831 home town fans in attendance. St. Louis had 9
hits overall, while Los Angeles(NL) had 5.

Carlos Martinez(2-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 1/3 of an inning and
allowing no runs. Kenley Jansen(0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief.

 

NLDS

 

GAME 1. ST.LOUIS CARDINALS AT COLORADO ROCKIES

GAme 1. St.Louis 7 at Colorado 0.  Cardinals get an outstanding pitching performance from Mikolas and the Red Birds were all over German Marquez scoring seven runs to take the opener. 

Kolten Wong went deep and had 3 RBI at Coors Field as the St. Louis Cardinals  beat the Colorado Rockies 7 to 0. 
In the top of the 3rd inning St. Louis went on top for good with 2 runs on 2  hits.  Wong got things going when he ripped a solo home run.  Miles Mikolas
dug into the batters box next, but he struck out.  Matt Carpenter then  smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly'.  That was all the runs Mikolas(2-0) needed.
St. Louis had 11 hits for the game and Colorado had 5.   German Marquez(2-1) was the loser.  He surrended 3 homeruns in his 5 and 1/3  innings.

GAme 2. St.Louis 4 at Colorado 7 ...Trevor Story connected with a 'big fly' as the Colorado Rockies beat the St.Louis Cardinals by a score of 7 to 4.
 St. Louis was unable to claim the lead after Colorado went ahead in the 2nd inning when they came up with 3 runs on 3 hits. 
The key at-bat was by Kyle Freeland who made the crowd happy when he doubled plating two runs. Colorado totaled 9 hits on the night.
 Freeland(2-1) got the win allowing 4 runs in 6 innings. Freeland got help from Wade Davis who earned his 2nd save.
 Michael Wacha(1-1) ended up with the loss. He gave up 6 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings. 

Game 3. Colorado 0 at St.Louis 2. Jack Flaherty(3-0) and Tyler Anderson(1-2) treated the St. Louis fans to a fine pitching duel at Busch Stadium. The St. Louis Cardinals eventually emerged as victors over the Colorado Rockies by the score of 2 to
0. Flaherty was in control of the game from the outset. He didn't give up much, just 3 hits and 3 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings. Flaherty chalked up 8 strikeouts reducing his ERA from 1.29 to 0.87. Both teams' bats went to
sleep after the 3rd inning with no runs scored after that point.Jordan Hicks earned the save, his 2nd.

Game 4. Colorado 1 at St.Louis 0. Excellent pitching match up in this one tonight and it was one for the ages to force a fifth and deciding game in the best of five series. In a game for the baseball purist, German Marquez(3-1) and Miles Mikolas(2-1)
squared off in a tense pitching duel, Colorado Rockies finally emerged victorious over St. Louis Cardinals, 1 to 0. Marquez was in control of the game from the outset. He allowed only 3 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings lowering his ERA from 3.32 to 2.42. Colorado had
only 5 hits for the game. Wade Davis earned his 3rd save.

 GAme 5. St.Louis 4 at Colorado 1. Jose Martinez hit 2 doubles and Daniel Poncedeleon came through with a solid 4 and one third innings as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Colorado Rockies by the score of 5 to 1 at Coors Field. St. Louis came up with 3 runs in the top of the 3rd inning with the help of 3 hits. They would prove to be the difference in the contest. Both teams' bats went to sleep after the 4th inning with no runs scored after that point. The win went to Poncedeleon(1-0) who allowed no runs in 4 and 1/3 innings. Kyle Freeland(2-2) was tagged with the loss. He allowed St. Louis 5 runs in 3 and 1/3 innings of work.

NLDS . ATLANTA BRAVES AT CHICAGO CUBS

 

 

 

 

 

Game 1. Atlanta 7 at Chicago Cubs 4.    Braves hitters were all over JOn Lester in this one as they score seven to take the opener.

GAme 2. Atlanta 11 at Chicago Cubs 12.   It was an amazing offensive display in Wrigley Field where the Chicago (NL) Cubs beat the Atlanta Braves  by the score of 12 to 11 in. Chicago (NL) won the game with an offensive outburst in the 8th inning showing no mercy on Atlanta as they plated 7 runs on 6 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Ben Zobrist who thrilled the crowd when he doubled plating two runs. Atlanta had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.  The winning pitcher was Pedro Strop(1-0) who allowed no runs in 2/3 of an inning. Shane Carle(0-1) was charged with the loss in relief. He pitched 1 and 1/3 innings giving up 2 hits and no walks.

 Game 3. Chicago 8 at Atlanta  5.  Javier Baez had 4 hits and 2 RBI at SunTrust Park where the Chicago (NL) Cubs
beat the Atlanta Braves by the score of 8 to 5.
 
Cole Hamels(2-1) earned his pay with a solid performance for Chicago (NL).  He  allowed 4 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings lowering his ERA from 5.40 to 4.44.
Hamels got help from Pedro Strop who pitched a perfect ninth and was credited  with his 3rd save. Sean Newcomb(1-1) was tagged with the loss.  His biggest problem was control
as he allowed 5 walks in 2 and 1/3 innings.

GAme 4.  Chicago 3 at Atlanta 2.  CHICAGO CUBS WINS THE BEST OF FIVE SERIES 3-1.  




 


 

 

ALDS

CLEVELAND VS TAMPA BAY

 

Game 1. Cleveland 2 at Tampa Bay 1.  Blake Snell does a masterful job of pitching and limits the Indians to no runs over 8 2/3. Enrique Romo is brought in to get the last out against Edwin Encarnacion with a 1-0 Tampa lead and a runner on first. Romo gives  up a two run shot to Encarnacion and the Indians shock the Rays in game 1.

In a great finish the Cleveland Indians came back in the top of the ninth and held on to win over the Tampa Bay Rays by a score of 2 to 1 at Tropicana Field. Cleveland scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning plating 2 runs. After two outs Melky Cabrera jump-started the rally as he drew a walk. Allen got a great jump and stole second easily. Edwin Encarnacion then clubbed a two-run home run. Neither team was able to score until the 7th inning. The winning pitcher was Adam Cimber(1-0) who allowed no runs in 1/3 of an inning. Cimber was helped out by Cody Allen who recorded his 3rd save. Sergio Romo(0-1) was the loser in relief. Kevin Cash was understandably not very talkative after his team’s tough loss. He quickly showered and changed and when asked about the game had a terse, yet polite response, ‘Hey fellows, that game was a heart-breaker to lose. Our guys gave it their all and played well – fate just wasn’t smilin’ on us tonight’

Game 2. Cleveland 6 at Tampa Bay  4 (16 INNINGS)  This one was a doozy as it went 16 innings in a classic pitching duel in extra innings. The Cleveland Indians got by the Tampa Bay Rays in 16 innings at Tropicana Field. The final score was 6 to 4. Both teams were tied at 4 runs apiece after nine innings. Cleveland won the game in the 16th inning. Leonys Martin opened up the inning nicely when he ripped a base-knock. Francisco Lindor stepped up to the plate and he drew a walk. Michael Brantley then drew a walk to load the bases. Melky Cabrera followed and he lined a base-hit driving in two more baserunners. Cabrera took second on the throw. The Tampa Bay batters didn’t put up a fight in the bottom of the 16th. Cody Allen(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings. Yonny Chirinos(0-2) was charged with the loss in relief. He gave up 4 hits and 3 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.

Game 3. Tampa Bay 1 at Cleveland  3.  Carlos Carrasco(3-0) and Tyler Glasnow(1-1) dueled it out with Carrasco and the Cleveland Indians coming out on top of the Tampa Bay Rays by the score of 3 to 1. Cleveland claimed the early lead in the first inning plating one baserunner.  Both teams ended up with 7 hits on the night.   Brad Hand recorded the save, his 1st.

CLEVELAND WINS THE BEST OF FIVE SERIES 3-0 AND ADVANCES TO THE AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES 

 

 

 

 


 

SEATTLE MARINERS VS  OAKLAND A’S  ALDS 2018

 

Game 1. Seattle 5 at Oakland 8. Stephen Piscotty touched them all and had 2 RBI at Oakland Coliseum as the red-hot Oakland A’s beat the Seattle Mariners by the count of 8 to 5.  Oakland brought 4 runs across the plate in the bottom of the 6th inning with
the help of 4 hits. The big moment was provided by Ramon Laureano who thrilled the crowd when he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run. A wild affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times.  Shawn Kelley(2-0) got the win allowing no runs in 2 and 2/3 innings. Blake Treinen recorded his 5th save. Adam Warren(0-2) was hit with the loss in  relief.

 

Game  2. Seattle 9 at Oakland 4. Best of five series now tied 1-1 as we head back to Seattle. Kyle Seager cracked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Seattle Mariners defeated the Oakland A’s 9 to 4 at Oakland Coliseum. Seager had a big day against Oakland. He cracked a two-run shot in the 5th inning and ripped a solo home run in the 8th inning. Seattle had 10 hits overall, while Oakland had 6. James Pazos(3-0) got the win allowing no runs in 2 and 2/3 innings. Mike Fiers(2-1) took the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 6  runs in 4 and 2/3 innings.

Game 3. Oakland 10 at Seattle 0.   The Seattle Mariners pitching staff was overwhelmed by the Oakland A’s lineup who plated 10 runs while Edwin Jackson(2-0)with relief help whitewashed Seattle. Oakland jumped on top of Seattle in the top of the 2nd inning scoring 2 runners on 3 hits. That was all Jackson needed. For the game Oakland out-hit Seattle 12 to 4. Marco Gonzales(1-1) was given the loss. He was touched for 8 hits and 4 walks  in 4 and 1/3 innings.

Game 4. Oakland 3  at Seattle 1.  Oakland wins the best of five series 3-1.  Trevor Cahill had an impressive outing at SAFECO Field as the Oakland A’s beat the Seattle Mariners by the count of 3 to 1. Seattle found themselves trailing quickly as the Oakland bats came through in the first inning scoring one runner. Seattle made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. Cahill(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 8 innings. Blake Treinen was credited with his 6th save. Wade Leblanc(1-1) was given the loss.

 

NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERES 2018

ST.LOUIS CARDINALS VS CHICAGO CUBS

 

Game 1. St.Louis 0 at Chicago Cubs 3 . Chicago leads the best of seven NLCS  one games to zero.  Kyle Hendricks had a strong outing as the Chicago (NL) Cubs defeated the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 3 to 0 at Wrigley Field. In the bottom of the 2nd inning Chicago (NL) went on top for good scoring a single run on 3 base hits. That was all the offense they were to need. Chicago (NL) had 7 hits for the game and St. Louis had 4. Hendricks(1-1) got the win allowing no runs in 8 innings. Pedro Strop earned the save, his 5th. Miles Mikolas(2-2) was charged with the loss.

Game 2. St.Louis 5 at Chicago 12. Chicago leads the best of seven series 2-0.  The Chicago (NL) Cubs had very little trouble at Wrigley Field downing the St. Louis Cardinals. The score was 12 to 5. Javier Baez enjoyed a big day at the plate. He lofted a solo-blast ‘downtown’ in the 3rd inning, doubled knocking in a run in the 5th inning and lashed a single which scored a run in the 7th inning. Chicago (NL) had 14 hits for the afternoon. The win was credited to Jon Lester(2-0) who went 5 innings allowing 3 runs. Jack Flaherty(3-1) suffered the loss. He got hammered, allowing 7 hits and 2 walks in 4 and 1/3 innings.

Game 3. Chicago 7 at St.Louis 2.  Cubs now lead the best of seven series 3-0. The Chicago (NL) Cubs cruised to a 7 to 2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. Chicago (NL) started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of the first scoring one runner using 2 hits. Chicago (NL) had 9 hits for the game and St. Louis had 6. Cole Hamels(3-1) allowed 2 runs in 7 innings, and picked up the victory. Michael Wacha(1-2) was charged with the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 7 hits and 3 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.

GAme 4. Chicago 6 at St.Louis 0.  Chicago Cubs win the NLCS four games to none.  The Cubbies jumped all over Cards ace Mikolas in the first inning for four runs and that is all they needed as their starter Kendrick was superb and the Cubs wins the National League Crown.

AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES 2018

CLEVELAND INDIANS AT OAKLAND A’S 

 

Game 1. Cleveland 2 at Oakland 1.  Cleveland leads the best of seven series 1-0.   Francisco Lindor hit a homerun at Oakland Coliseum where the Cleveland Indians beat the Oakland A’s 2 to 1. Cleveland scored 2 runs in the top of the 5th inning. Yan Gomes kicked off the action when he hit a bases-empty home run. Two outs later Lindor stepped in and he ripped a solo home run. Both teams finished the game with 6 hits. Corey Kluber(3-0) was the winner allowing 1 run in 7 and 2/3 innings. Brad Hand gained credit for his 2nd save. Sean Manaea(2-1) was hit with the loss. He gave up 5 hits and 1 walk in 7 and 1/3 innings.

Game 2 Cleveland 7 at Oakland 3.  Cleveland now leads the best of seven series 2-0.  Mike Clevinger whiffed 11 batters at Oakland Coliseum as the sizzling Cleveland Indians beat the Oakland A’s 7 to 3. Clevinger(1-0) pitched a fine game. He went 8 innings allowing 7 hits and no walks and gave up 2 homeruns. For the game Cleveland out-hit Oakland 14 to 7. Mike Fiers(2-2) suffered the loss. He was knocked around, surrendering 6 runs in 4 and 1/3 innings. Clevinger was humble when questioned about his performance, ‘Well, I felt pretty confident in my pitches this afternoon. But, I had great support behind me and I just threw what was called. That was an extremely well called game!’

Game 3. Oakland 0 at Cleveland 5.  Cleveland now leads the best of seven series 3-0.  Carlos Carrasco dominated striking out 10 Oakland batters as the blistering-hot Cleveland Indians defeated the Oakland A’s by the score of 5 to 0 at Progressive Field. Carrasco(4-0) looked very much in control throughout the night. He didn’t give up much, just 5 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings lowering his ERA to 1.30. Neither team managed to score after the 1st inning. The losing pitcher was Edwin Jackson(2-1). Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance of Carrasco – except Oakland. Bob Melvin lamented, ‘He just was ‘on’ tonight. He was keeping our guys off balance all game. A fine game by a good strikeout pitcher – makes it a fun game for the hometown fans – unfortunately we were the visitors!’

Game 4. Oakland 3 at Cleveland 1.  Oakland staves off elimination and wins their first game of the series to narrow the series to 3-1.  Trevor Cahill carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the Oakland A’s defeated the Cleveland Indians 3 to 1 at Progressive Field. Cahill(2-0) pitched a fine game. He went 5 and 1/3 innings and surrended up 2 hits and 2 walks. The right-handed Cahill lost a no-hitter when Leonys Martin homered with one out in the 6th inning. Oakland finished with 7 hits while Cleveland ended up with 2. Blake Treinen preserved the game for Cahill, recording his his 7th save. Corey Kluber(3-1) was the loser. He allowed 5 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.

Game 5. Oakland 5 at Cleveland 3.  Oakland pushes the series back to their home ground with a big win to force a game six as Cleveland is now up 3-2.  Khris Davis blasted 2 homeruns at Progressive Field where the Oakland A’s beat the Cleveland Indians by the score of 5 to 3. Oakland set the tone of the game in the first inning scoring 2 runs utilizing 4 base hits. Nick Martini got things going when he ripped a base-knock. Matt Chapman followed next and he lashed a single. Jed Lowrie then stroked a one-base hit plating a run. Davis got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim. Trevor Bauer then unleashed a wild pitch scoring the final run of the inning. Cleveland was retired without difficulty in the bottom of the 9th. Sean Manaea(3-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 innings and allowing 3 runs. Blake Treinen gained credit for his 8th save. Bauer(0-2) was the loser. He surrended 3 homeruns in his 4 innings.

Game 6. Cleveland 1 at Oakland 0.  Cleveland Indians win the 2018 ALCS four games to two. Right fielder Melky Cabrera had 2 base hits as the Cleveland Indians bested the Oakland A’s 1 to 0 at Oakland Coliseum. The deciding run was scored by Cleveland in the 8th. After an out was recorded, Francisco Lindor doubled. Michael Brantley stepped into the batter’s box and he reached on an error. Cabrera then singled scoring the run. Brad Hand came throught with a perfect ninth inning to earn his 3rd save. Oliver Perez(1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings. The loss was charged to Shawn Kelley(2-1) in relief. He allowed 1 hit and no walks in 1/3 of an inning.

Game 1. Cleveland 4 at Chicago Cubs 2.  Cleveland leads the best of seven series 1-0. In a tight game it was the Cleveland Indians 4, the Chicago (NL) Cubs 2 at Wrigley Field. Cleveland promptly took the lead in their half of the first scoring 3 runners on 3 hits. That was all the offense they were to need. Both teams ended up with 8 hits on the afternoon. The victory was credited to Corey Kluber(4-1) who went 5 and 1/3 innings, allowing 2 runs. Cody Allen recorded the save, his 4th. Kyle Hendricks(2-2) suffered the loss.

Game 2. Cleveland 3 at Chicago 5.  In a tight game it was the Chicago (NL) Cubs 5, the Cleveland Indians 3 at Wrigley Field. Jon Lester(3-0) pitched a fine game. He was reached for 6 hits and 4 walks in 7 and 1/3 innings lowering his ERA from 5.40 to 4.13. Cleveland threatened in the 9th but Chicago (NL) was able to put down the rally. Steve Cishek was credited with his 2nd save. Carlos Carrasco(4-1) was charged with the loss. He pitched 7 innings allowing 8 hits and 2 walks.

Game 3. Chicago Cubs 4 at Cleveland Indians 5 (16 innings).  The Cleveland Indians edged the Chicago (NL) Cubs in 16 innings at Progressive Field by the score of 5 to 4. Both teams were tied at 4 runs apiece after nine innings. Cleveland came out on top in the 16th inning. Michael Brantley lined a base-hit. Erik Gonzalez stepped into the batter’s box and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Melky Cabrera then was walked intentionally. One out later, Yonder Alonso came to bat and smacked a single resulting in an exciting win for Cleveland and a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans. Cleveland had 13 hits overall, while Chicago (NL) had 9. Cody Allen(2-0) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the win. Jesse Chavez(0-1) was given the loss in relief. He pitched 4 innings and surrendered 3 hits and 3 walks.

Game 4. Chicago Cubs 3 at Cleveland 5.  Cleveland now leads the best of seven series 3-1. Leonys Martin slammed a homerun and had 3 RBI as the Cleveland Indians topped the Chicago (NL) Cubs by a score of 5 to 3 at Progressive Field. Corey Kluber(5-1) had a steady outing. He went 6 innings surrendering 9 hits and 1 walk. Cody Allen pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 5th save. Kyle Hendricks(2-3) ended up with the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 8 hits and 3 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.

Game 5. Chicago 6 at Cleveland 0. Cleveland now leads the best of seven series 3-2. Javier Baez hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI at Progressive Field as the Chicago (NL) Cubs beat the Cleveland Indians by the count of 6 to 0. Chicago (NL) set the tone of the game in the first inning scoring one runner. After an out was recorded, Kris Bryant drew a walk. After another out, Baez came up and he doubled scoring the run. That early run support was all that Jose Quintana(1-2) required. Both teams totaled 8 hits on the night. Trevor Bauer(0-3) absorbed the loss. He pitched 5 and 2/3 innings and surrendered 6 hits and 2 walks.

Game 6. Cleveland 5 at Chicago 2 . The Cleveland Indians win the 2018 Stratomatic World Series four games to two .  The Cleveland Indians bested the Chicago (NL) Cubs by a 5 to 2 score at Wrigley Field. Chicago (NL) was unable to climb back into it after Cleveland went ahead for good in the top of the 5th inning when they scored 2 runs on 1 hit. The
crucial at-bat was provided by Michael Brantley who deflated the crowd as he cracked a two-run shot. Cleveland had 8 hits for the night.  Carlos Carrasco(5-1) went 5 and 1/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the victory. Brad Hand earned his 4th save. The loss was charged to Jon Lester(3-1).
