Japan at Mexico

At Globe Life Park, the MEXICO faithful were treated to an intriguing
pitcher’s duel. Yu Darvish(1-0) finally bested his MEXICO counterpart,
Miguel Gonzalez(0-1), by the score of 3 to 1.

JAPAN did all of it’s offensive work in the 3rd inning scoring 3 runners on 3
hits. That was all the offense they were to need. The pitchers took over
after the 3rd inning as neither team was able to score again.

Darvish was helped out by Yoshihisa Hirano who recorded his 1st save. The
loss was charged to Gonzalez. He allowed 7 hits and no walks in 8 and 1/3
innings.

Venezuela at Dominican Republic

At Angel Stadium, the DOMINICAN REP fans witnessed a great pitcher’s duel.
Carlos Martinez(1-0) finally bested his VENEZUELA opposite, Carlos
Carrasco(0-1), by the score of 2 to 1.

Martinez delivered a fine performance for DOMINICAN REP. He was reached for 4
hits and 4 walks in 7 innings. Martinez recorded 8 strikeouts. DOMINICAN
REP had only 6 hits for the game.

Alex Colome earned his 1st save. Carrasco was charged with the loss. He
pitched 7 innings giving up 5 hits and 2 walks.

Cuba at Canada

World Baseball Classic Strat-o-matic Replay

The hometown crowd was rewarded with a dramatic ending, as the CANADA CANADA
staged a comeback win over the CUBA CUBA by the count of 8 to 7.

CANADA had the game winning rally in the 9th inning plating 3 runs. After an
out was recorded, Justin Morneau got things rolling when he drew a walk.
After another out, Joey Votto stepped in and he drew a walk. Freddie Freeman
then clubbed a three-run home run making CANADA the victors to the delight of
the home town faithful. CANADA totaled 8 hits on the afternoon.

Puerto Rico at USA

World Baseball Classic 2017 . Strat-o-matic Replay

The UNITED STATES USA had very little trouble at Yankee Stadium downing the
PUERTO RICO PUERTO RICO. The score was 6 to 1.

UNITED STATES jumped on top of PUERTO RICO in the 3rd inning when they came up
with 2 runs on 2 hits. That early run support was all that J.A. Happ(1-0)
required. UNITED STATES had 8 hits for the afternoon while PUERTO RICO had
5.

Hector Santiago(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He served up 4 homeruns in his 7
and 1/3 innings.

Venezuela at Mexico . World Baseball Classic

Andrelton Simmons had 4 hits and 5 RBI and Junior Guerra struck out 11 batters as the MEXICO MEXICO were badly beaten by the VENEZUELA VENEZUELA, 12 to 1. Simmons was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he provided much of the offense for the visitors. He doubled scoring two baserunners in the 3rd inning, laced a single in the 5th inning, doubled plating three runs in the 6th inning and slapped a one-base hit in the 9th inning. VENEZUELA rapped out 14 hits for the afternoon. The victory went to Guerra(1-0) who went the distance allowing 1 run. Marco Estrada(0-1) was hit with the loss. VENEZUELA knocked him around a bit, as he gave up 7 runs in 4 innings. Guerra didn’t realize how many strikeouts he was racking up. When told he had 11 he was obviously surprised, ‘No kidding? Man, I knew that I had a decent total, but I didn’t think I had K’d that many. Say, that’s pretty good, isn’t it?’
